50th Anniversary Celebrations

On August 30th 2009 Christ Church began a year of celebrations to mark its 50th Anniversary (see Parish History)

The celebrations began with the 11.00 am Sunday Mass celebrated by Bishop Brian Noble with Father Paul and Father Mike Dyson as concelebrants. The Bishop spoke in his homily about Christians focusing on the fundamentals of their faith and referred to the day's Gospel where the Pharisees were hidebound by the rules and regulations of the Jewish law, whilst overlooking the law to love and serve our neighbour.

The Mass was followed by a parish meal held at the Hallmark Hotel in Handforth where 130 guests enjoyed a wonderful meal and the associated companionship. Father Paul acknowledged all the past work of earlier members of the parish and gave particular mention to two elderly parishioners who have been recipients of the Bene Merenti awards from Pope John Paul 2nd.

As the year progresses we all look forward to further events which are planned as part of the anniversary year. The next one being a Harvest Meal in the church hall on September 26th.
