Harvest Quiz and Supper

On the evening of Saturday 20th of September 2013 the Parish held a Harvest Quiz and Supper. The event was well attended by about 40/45 people who enjoyed a convivial evening of head scratching, and chat. There were 5 rounds of questions and the proceedings were well administered by Gerald Dwan our quizmaster, with Father Paul at hand with his iPad verifying certain answers where dispute arose as to which answer might be correct. Prizes were warded for first and second places

A break was taken between rounds for the participants to partake of a hot supper prepared and cooked by Christine Bodley and Ruth Hamilton. On the menu was a choice for main course between Fish Pie and Cheese and Onion pie, both of which were delicious. These were followed by Home made Apple and Blackberry pie and Custard. The Blackberries having been collected in the local hedgerows, the apples being windfalls, we were eating of nature's bounty. Everyone agreed that it was an excellent repast and Father thanked both Christine and Ruth for their hard work in preparing and cooking it all.

The evening raised 330 after expenses, which will either go towards a refurbishing of the church organ or to upgrading the Narthex of the church - decision yet to be made.

On Sunday morning at the 11.00am Mass the children led the Harvest Festival celebration, bringing gifts to place on the altar steps near to the beautiful display of vegetables and fruits prepared by the Catechists and laid out at the front of church near the font.

Next week all of these donated gifts of food will be taken to The Wellspring in Stockport, which provides meals etc for the homeless.
